Swap Rules
Rules for these events vary from place to place, but here's how we do it:
1. Place your wrapped gift with the others, and pick a number from the bowl.
2. When we're ready to start, Player #1 selects any gift they want from the pile, opens it, and then displays it so we can ooh and ahh over the awesomeness.
3. Player #2 now has the CHOICE of *stealing* the gift that Player #1 just opened, *OR* selecting a new gift from the pile. If they choose to steal from #1, then #1 gets to select and open a new gift. If Player #2 chooses to open a new gift, they select from the gift pile, open, and display the gift for everyone to see.
4. Player #3 now has the choice of stealing from Player #1 or Player #2, *OR* selecting a gift from the pile. If Player #3 chooses to steal, then the Player who just had their gift stolen now has the option of stealing or selecting.
5. Play continues like this until all the gifts are open, at which point Player #1 has the FINAL choice of keeping their current gift, or stealing from someone else in possession of a gift that has not been frozen.
A few additional rules:
* Bring a gift that you would like to receive valued around $25.
*Gifts should be new, in original packaging.
*Gifts that have been opened must be kept on display for all to see, unless a gift has been "frozen."
* A gift is "frozen" (ie, no further steals allowed) if it has been stolen 3 times. The person who is the third person to steal it has the option of "freezing" it, and removing it from display.
*A player who has their gift stolen (and then has the option of "stealing" or "selecting") may not steal the gift that was just stolen from them in that round. If presented with another opportunity to steal/select in a future round, then they may steal it back if it has not yet been frozen.
*Players may conspire and strategize with one another.
*Once the game has ended, players are welcome to continue trading if desired.
